HOMEWOOD, IL — One week after a Homewood man was found dead inside his home after taking his own life, police have confirmed he was the suspect in the murder of a love interest days prior.
Evidence in the investigation into the shooting death of Bianca Davis, 51, revealed that on the morning of June 6, Carlos Jones, 53, arrived at Davis’ residence in his vehicle, police said Tuesday.
A little over 10 minutes later, Jones left her residence. No one else entered the residence until her family came to check on her that afternoon, police said, and discovered Davis shot to death inside the home.
The subsequent follow-up investigation led detectives to Jones as a suspect. Jones and Davis had a previous dating relationship that ended a few months prior, police said. Detectives were able to gather enough information and evidence to obtain a search warrant for Jones’ residence located in the 17600 block of Dixie Hwy.
On June 8, police said the search warrant was executed on Jones’ residence, where he was found in a bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The exact time of Jones’ death is unknown, police said, but based on evidence collected by detectives, investigators believe it occurred at some point in the late evening hours of June 6.
"The facts and evidence gathered during this investigation indicate that Jones was the offender in this homicide," police said. "Due to Jones’ death, this investigation has been closed. No additional information is available at this time."
