Dolphin Lake Driver Identified

Homewood police have identified the man who died when his car went into Dolphin Lake last week.

HOMEWOOD, IL - The driver of the car that went into Dolphin Lake in Homewood last week has been identified as 53-year-old Larry Bowen, who was killed in the incident.

The cause and manner of death are still pending a more detailed investigation, according to a report from the Daily Southtown.

Emergency crews in Homewood responded to the lake in the area of 183rd Street and Governors Highway at 9:09 a.m. on March 31 for a report of a car in the water. There, two police officers and two firefighters were able to rescue Bowen from the water, but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly after. No one else was in the vehicle at the time.

An initial investigation of the crash indicates the vehicle was travelling northbound on Governors Highway from 183rd when it veered off the roadway in a northwest direction and continued into Dolphin Lake.

Bowen may have had a medical emergency, the investigation showed.
