Class 8A Football Playoffs: H-F Levels Lockport, Breezes Into Quarterfinals

Homewood-Flossmoor 48, Lockport 7: For second time this year, the Vikings have no problems with the Porters, as Tim Williams leads the offensive barrage and the defense records seven QB sacks.

Breaking It Down: Much like they did in their regular-season matchup, ’s Vikings dismantled Lockport on Friday night. This time it was a 48-7 Vikings romp in Flossmoor in the second round of the Class 8A state playoffs. The game got so lopsided, there was a running clock with 9:35 left in the fourth quarter.

During their 35-0 win on Sept. 30, the Vikings allowed only one Porter first down. While the Porters matched that total in the opening drive of Friday night’s game, they didn't have much success on offense for most of the night.

Vikings quarterback Tim Wiilliams hooked up with wideout Sean Jones all game long, including a 45-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter. The Vikings made it 14-0 when Williams rushed into the end zone from 2 yards out with 1:57 left in the quarter.

The Porters cut the lead in half on a TD pass from quarterback Billy Reed early in the second quarter. But that was about all Reed had on the night, as he was sacked seven times. Combine that with the Porters’ inability to stop Williams, Jones and the rest of the Vikings’ offense, and the game got out of hand quickly.

The Vikings tacked on two scores before the half to take a 28-7 lead into the intermission. First, Williams rushed for his second touchdown of the game, from 11 yards out. Then Anfernee Roberts rushed for the first of his two touchdowns of the night.

H-F Stat Pack: Sean Jones had seven catches for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Anfernee Roberts had 85 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Quotable I: H-F coach Craig Buzea on facing Lockport for a second time in five weeks: “It is always tough to play a team a second time. You don't know if you are that much better than them or if they just had a bad night. We came out and played well and jumped on them early."

Quotable II: Buzea on his team: “I am proud of how we are playing right now. It is good to be back in the state quarterfinals.”

Team Records: H-F improves to 8-3 while Lockport finishes at 7-4.
