Gimme 5: Hickman Rides High in GoodSpeed Cycling Classic
Cory Hickman, an Orland Park native, placed eighth in during a grueling race last week in Homewood.
Cory Hickman, an Orland Park native, fell in love with cycling while he was a sophomore at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Hickman recently competed in the GoodSpeed Cycling Classic in Homewood. He placed eighth in a very competitive Master’s 1/2/3 Age 35-over race.
“It was a pretty fast race,” he said. “It was important to hold a post toward the front of a bunched up crowd of racers, and I was able to get good position on the last corner sprint.”

Cycling can be a very grueling sport and requires a cyclist to be highly motivated and Hickman is just that.
“I like to win and I am very competitive,” he said. “I like how the hard work yields results.”

Hickman has some keys to success for riders just getting into competitive cycling.
“It is an extremely hard mental sport and very challenging physically,” he said. “You just need to stick with it and take care of your body and train as much as possible and have fun.”
Hickman has three boys all under the age of 8. You can only guess what he likes to do with them for fun.
“I like to ride bikes with them," he said.
