Girls Soccer: H-F dominates Eisenhower in Playoff Opener
Seven different players score as Vikings jump on Cardinals early and often, breeze into Saturday's regional final.
The Homewood-Flossmoor girls soccer team is the second seed in the Mother McAuley Sectional, but the Vikings played like they are No. 1 in their 9-0 victory over Eisenhower on Wednesday.
"They don't have the feeder program like our community has, but they still played a nice game," H-F coach Charlie Ward said.
In a match where you are the clear favorite, it is important to get off to a early lead so as to not give the underdog any hope. The Vikings did just that getting four quick goals, allowing their starters to exit early and rest up for the regional final.

"We hoped to get on them early and get all of our reserves some serious game time to showcase what they have and give them the benefit of facing some competition," Ward said.
The Vikings (18-2) will face the winner of the Mother McAuley at noon on Saturday at H-F. McAuley ousted Lincoln-Way East 7-3.

Seven different Vikings scored at least one goal, and Kelly Lewers scored two goals to increase her total to 42 on the season.
Other goals for the Vikings were scored by Haley Hruska, Emily Schroeder, Kelly Coderre, Chrissy Coderre, Carling Johns, Ali Farkos and even goalie Kim Boehm took the field and scored the last goal of the rout.
Assists were collected by Emily Johnson, who had two, and Manju Connolly, Kym Grell, Tess Hupfer and Johns.
But even with contributions coming from so many different players, Ward still feels his team can improve.
"We need to work on our possesion," he said. "We have to be a little crisper and play one- and two-touch soccer."
Against McAuley, the Vikings know they will have to do one thing.
"I don't know much about them," Ward said. "But I do know they (have) a good program. We have to come out strong and jump on them early and not take anything for granted. They will be hungry to move on like us."
