H-F Girls Soccer Earns Elite Status

The Vikings (21-2) got two goals from senior standout Kelly Lewers and one from Ali Farkos to upset top-seeded Sandburg in Friday’s Class 3A Mother McAuley Sectional.

It was the Vikings’ latest step in their postseason quest. They won their own regional last Saturday, defeating Mother McAuley 2-0. Lewers scored two goals in that game.
In Wednesday’s sectional semifinal, H-F defeated Lincoln-Way North 2-0 in a game that was called six minutes into the second half because of lightning. Sammi Farkos scored in the opening half for the Vikings and Kate Vendrely added an insurance goal just before the game was called.

Rice Ends Vikings’ Baseball Season
H-F’s baseball season came to an end Friday night with a 5-0 loss to Brother Rice in a Class 4A regional semifinal game. Rice’s Mike Yacko held the Vikings to just three hits as the Crusaders improved to 14-14. The Vikings finished 19-12 on the season.
H-F Softball Eyes Regional Title
H-F will take on Stagg today at home in the softball regional title game, beginning at 11 a.m.
The Vikings beat Lincoln-Way Central 7-4 in the regional semifinals, as Sarah Burke led the way with seven strikeouts and allowed just one earned run. Alex Bitto sparked the Vikings' offense with three hits.
Stagg (27-9) advanced to the regional final with a 13-3 win over Crete-Monee.
H-F Boys Track Competes at State Meet
H-F’s boys track and field team is competing at state this weekend at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. State qualifiers include Ephraim Dorsey in the 800-meter run, Josh Nance in the 400-meter dash and the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relay teams.
Vikings Vie for State Tennis Honors
After finishing in second place at its own sectional, the Vikings’ boys tennis team moved on to state competition.
The Vikings came up just short in sectional play, falling to Marian Catholic 26-24. The difference was Marian’s wins in both the singles and doubles finals.
The Spartans’ Julian Childers defeated H-F’s Brad Holt 6-4, 6-1 in the singles final, and the Spartans’ tandem of Mitch Zavesky and Kyle Scheffers took first in doubles by beating H-F’s Jack Schumann and Kodie Hayes 6-2, 6-2.
Despite the sectional losses, Holt and Schumann and Hayes advanced to this weekend’s state competition.
Boys Lacrosse Team Advances
The H-F boys lacrosse team defeated Marian Catholic 7-4 on Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs. The Vikings improved to 14-2 on the season with the win.
