H-F Golfer Armstrong Wins Southtown Challenge

Sophomore Sarah Armstrong blows away the field with a sparkling round of 79 at Glenwoodie.

Homewood-Flossmoor girls golfer Sarah Armstrong got off to a great start to what she hopes is a successful summer leading into her sophomore year with the Vikings.

Armstrong dominated the girls 13--15 age group of the SouthtownStar Challenge Junior Golf Championship on Tuesday at Glenwoodie Golf Course in Glenwood.

Playing in the event for the first time, Armstrong shot 79 and lapped the field. The second-place finisher came in with a score of 95.

Midwest Collegiate League Southland Vikings Call H-F Home

There is a new baseball team in town and it already is off to a fast start, not only on the field but off of it as well.

The team is the  Southland Vikings of they Midwest Collegiate League. They will be playing their home games at Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s baseball field.

Flossmoor Eighth-Grade All-stars Take Cross Town Classic

Earlier this month, the eighth-grade Flossmoor All-Star's beat Homewood 3-0 in the 2011 baseball Cross Town Classic.

Kellen Williams was named Most Valuable Player. He had nine hits in three games, pitched effectively on the mound and made some great defensive plays in the field.

Wallace Awarded Evans Golf Scholarship

Michael Wallace of Glenwood was awarded an Evans Scholarship that will begin this fall when he heads off to college. Wallace, who caddies at Flossmoor Country Club, will be attending Miami of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio.

Evans Scholars are golf caddies selected based on the following four criteria: They have a strong caddie record, good grades, need for financial assistance and outstanding character.

Recipients were chosen after individual candidate interviews at selection meetings held throughout the country by the Western Golf Association.

The Evans Scholars program was founded in 1930 by Charles "Chick" Evans Jr. and is operated by the Western Golf Association, headquarted in Golf, Ill.

The Evans Scholars program has more than 8,600 alumni and currenlty has more than 830 scholars in school across its 14 chapters. The Evans Scholarship is valued at an estimated $70,000 over four years.
