Restaurant 'Doing Everything in Our Power' to Stop Pro-Rape Rally
A pro-rape blogger wants his supporters to gather in a Homewood restaurant's parking lot. Owner and staff say "no way."
A Homewood restaurant selected as the location for a blogger’s pro-rape rally isn’t about to let that go down on its property.
Staff at Balagio Ristorante, 17501 Dixie Highway, this week alerted police after hearing about blogger Daryush Valizadeh’s plans to host the gathering in the restaurant’s parking lot. Known to his audience as Roosh V, Valizadeh contends—among many other ideas—that rape should be legal inside a private home.
The event is expected to take place worldwide on Saturday, with 165 meetings in 43 countries.

“Thanks for all that reached out for letting us know about this rally,” according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. “We gave the info over to Homewood Police and they are handling it. We in no way condone or gave permission to this group and are doing everything in our power to put an end to it.”
Hosts have been instructed to wait at meeting points at 8 p.m. for men who are interested in attending. The men are told to ask the question, “Do you know where I can find a pet shop?”

Members who are part of the group will then respond, “Yes it’s right here.”
“If you ask someone for the pet shop and they appear confused or actually try to direct you to a real pet shop, they’re not there for the meetup,” the blogger wrote on his site.
On Wednesday, Valizadeh blogged about people opposing his rallies.
“I’ve gotten reports of over a dozen organized protests at our meeting points. Dozens more are being organized privately. Since this meetup was never intended as a confrontation with unattractive women and their enablers, I’m moving to save as many of these meetups as I can before Saturday,” he wrote.
His writings and beliefs have triggered interest in many nations, he said, even earning him the nickname, “a world Don Juan.”
”I didn’t try to become infamous worldwide, but that has been the outcome, all because of my teachings and ideas,” he wrote.
Those ideas are based in neomasculinity, a tenet of which is that ”men will opt out of monogamy and reproduction if there are no incentives to engage in them.” Oh, and ”a woman’s value significantly depends on her fertility and beauty. A man’s value significantly depends on his resources, intellect, and character.”
He claims he has been ”falsely accused of crimes like rape and harassment by my enemies in an attempt to shut me down, but they are too weak to defeat me.”
