An effort to help pay for the medical expenses of Det. Darryl Hope, who was shot outside his home, is headed by Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers.

DOLTON, IL — A Dolton police officer who was shot at his home on the South Side of Chicago early Monday morning continues to recover from several wounds as the city's top ranking public official makes a plea to help the "highly decorated" detective. Dolton Mayor Riley Rogers has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the medical expenses of Det. Darryl Hope of the Dolton Police Department. Hope was shot several times during a gunfight on his front porch in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood by two men attempting to rob him outside his home.
"Sadly, Detective Hope has become a victim of the armed violence that has plagued so many communities," Rogers said, adding that Hope has "become a victim of the type of violence that he works daily to prevent." READ MORE: Dolton Cop Shot Outside His South Side Home
