Homewood-Flossmoor High School coach Mark Thompson's shares his passion for lacrosse with campers.

Homewood-Flossmoor High School lacrosse coach Mark Thompson has been committed to building the school’s lacrosse program and bringing the sports to kids.

"My wife and I had two boys grow up and graduate from this program, and we want to see this program continue for many years to come," he says.

Lacrosse is becoming more popular in the South Suburbs, with club and school teams popping up in many communities. The sports combines many elements of football, basketball, hockey and soccer.

The recent H-F lacrosse camp provided grade school and high school boys the opportunity to learn techniques and drills, including stick-handling, cradling, dodging and shooting. Full games were played weekly.

While there is not currently a girls lacrosse team at H-F, girls are allowed to participate if they choose to play with the boys. Thompson hopes that the program continues to grow to include a girls team in the near future. And he hopes that some of the kids he has coached eventually will coach teams of their own.

The boys in camp were treated to a BBQ lunch on a recent Saturday, complete with burgers, hot dogs and watermelon. Afterward, they headed back to the field to run more drills.
