Varsity head coach Craig Buzea works with his team to get up to speed as the season opener nears.
Homewood-Flossmoor varsity football coach Craig Buzea was encouraged by his team’s energy when the Vikings hit the practice field this week.
“Being the first day of practice, we're very pleased,” he said. “This is an indication of how we did in the summer. They came out enthusiastic today."
Watching quarterback Tim Williams find his targets was just one of the causes for optimism.

“We have several (players) coming back from our semifinal 14 last year," Buzea said. "On offense, we have our quarterback, Tim Williams, who is going to be one of the main cogs. We have a good receiver, Jerry Butler, along with Sean Jones and Willie Ross. We think these guys will be positive contributing factors, along with Anthony Roberts."
There are still kinks to work out before the season kicks off, Buzea said.

“We've had 14 days off. We have to get up to par where we were when we left for the summer,” he said. “Our conditioning needs to improve. We'll keep working and by game time we'll be ready to go."
The Vikings will host Senn on Aug. 26 in the opener.
