Train Strikes Person At Hazel Crest Station, Delaying Service

Trains on the Metra Electric Line were operating on residual delays Thursday morning after a person was struck on the tracks in Hazel Crest.

HAZEL CREST, IL - Service was delayed on several trains along the Metra Electric Line Thursday morning as a result of a train striking a person near the Hazel Crest station. Metra Spokesman Tom Miller said it was Train #708, which left University Park at 7:45 a.m. and was bound for Millennium Station in Chicago at 8:38 a.m., that struck the person.

The train "arrived about an hour late," according to Miller, who said additional trains on the Electric Line arrived and departed with residual delays. As of 1 p.m., all service has been resumed as normal.

Miller said the person was not fatally struck. Although an initial report has not officially been made, indications are that the train hit a person who was sitting on the platform and had their feet dangling over the tracks.
