Welcome 'Uncle Mike's Special Walk' to RFL of Huntley

Team joins cancer walk

Relay for Life of Huntley welcomes team 'Uncle Mike's Special Walk'!

Team Captain, Britt Crowe, explains why she relays:

"I was in 9th grade when my mother was first diagnosed with brain cancer.  They gave her eight months.  She made it four more years!  This July will be seventeen years since she passed and I still miss her every day.  Since then, cancer has touched many of my family and friends, and I am grateful every day that so many of them can wear purple and walk that survivor lap.  I have two favorite parts of the Relay: the survivor lap and the luminarias.  I am excited to watch my Uncle Mike walk the survivor lap again this year!  My tears are always accompanied by mixed feelings during that survivor lap--prayers of gratitude for those I love that have beat it, and longing to see my mom come around that turn in her purple shirt.  I also buy luminarias every year and I love finding them and stopping to say a prayer at each bag.  Now my kids get to come with and they have fun finding everyone's candles!  I've seen how treatment has changed and how much progress has been made since my mom was ill, and that's because of Relay for Life.  Participating every year helps me remember and gives me hope."
