Calling All Border Collie Lovers...

Check Out Bron!

Meet Bron!
Male Border Collie Mix
DOB 6/16/14

Bron came from Alabama where he was abandoned and left to fend for himself. It may sound odd to say that he was lucky to be sent to a high kill shelter, but he is, because this shelter does everything it can to find rescue for their dogs. We brought him to Illinois and he is currently in a foster home.

Border Collies are known for being highly intelligent, energetic, and athletic. In fact, they are often noted to be the most intelligent of all domestic dogs. They respond to subtle commands and almost anticipate what is next. Border Collies thrive on mental and physical stimulation and need a job of their own and plenty of exercise to keep them stimulated and avoid boredom. They are often used in agility events.

Bron is a true Border Collie at heart. He is a sweet, gentle dog that aims to please and also has drive and determination. He loves to run and play and we believe that he would be a great companion for a family that understands the herding breeds.

He aims to please and loves to snuggle and have his belly rubbed. In his foster home, there are no other dogs to play with and he gets bored. He would definitely benefit from another canine companion in his home and a fenced in yard to romp around in. If he is out without another dog or person to play with, he sits by the door waiting to come in (he doesn’t like to be out alone). Being one of the herding breeds, he will do best in a home with older children that understand his herding instincts.

He is fantastic in his crate (though he doesn’t like to go in there initially), but he is great once in. In the house, he is not a super high energy dog, he sleeps a good part of the day as long as he has had his fill of play and exercise. When he goes to bed he is out for the night (unless there is commotion in the house)!

He is learning leash manners and has recently tried a gentle leader that has done wonders! He was not housebroken when he arrived, but he picked that up quickly and is accident free! His foster says that he is an AWESOME dog that dreams of a fenced yard and another dog to play with!
