Illinois’ past is filled with some of the nation’s worst disaster sites and notoriously morbid events. From the deadliest commercial airlines crash in U.S. history to the most infamous Prohibition-era mass execution, Illinois has had more than its fair share of dark days.

Some of these fatal and ill-fated events have been forgotten, while others permanently scarred the state. If you have been around long enough, you’ll surely remember a few of these tragic happenings.
