Huntley Gymnastics Academy Celebrates Grand Opening

About 30 sets of eyes were locked onto Skylar Lingl as the 11-year-old flipped and tumbled her way across the new floor.

The sixth-grader, who attends Dundee Middle School, didn’t miss a step while moving through her floor routine - not only in front of her peers, but also before a distinguished group of guests from Huntley Village Hall.

“That girl is really good,” one onlooker said.

The presentation was part of the grand opening ceremony Thursday afternoon at Huntley Gymnastics Academy. The new business opened one month ago at 10763 Wolf Dr. in the Wolf Business Park, Huntley.

Several village board members and Village Hall staffers attended the event, which included the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, open gym, snacks and other festivities.

Owner and head coach Amy Krotser said the academy is an Olympic-style training facility.

In addition to balance beams, parallel bars, vaults and trampolines, HGA boasts three sizeable foam pits dug six-feet-deep into the ground, similar in size to a swimming pool, Krotser said.

By submerging the pits, gymnasts are able to hone their skills and tumble at ground level. Even the trampolines are flush with the ground and surrounded by padded flooring.

The academy’s spacious facility gives athletes more than ample room to practice and compete. Yet, Krotser already is thinking into the future.

“I’m hoping to expand,” said Krotser.

HGA has a staff of eight coaches, four full-time and four part-time.

In addition to catering to gymnasts of all ages– both competitive and recreational - HGA’s clientele includes cheerleaders wishing to improve their skills and students at the preschool and kindergarten level.

The academy also plans to host open gym hours every day, a kids night out package and birthday party celebrations.
