The salon, along with the 700 other Hair Cuttery locations throughout the country, began collecting donations on Friday, Nov. 23. The winter-clothing drive will end Jan. 1, at which time all donations will be picked up by the United States Army.

The winter gear will be delivered to local homeless shelters and charities that serve the poor and needy. Such charities include the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Salvation Army and Cradles to Crayons, the release said.

The donation drive is part of a partnership between Hair Cuttery and Krausey’s Koats, a program started six years ago in Philadelphia by radio personality Joe Krause. The program has collected over 15,000 coats since it began.

Hair Cuttery is the largest family-owned and operated chain of hair salons in the country. The chain partnered with the Krausey’s Koats campaign last year in the Philadelphia area and collected 6,500 coats, the release said.

“This year, with the expansion of the program into other regions of the country, we hope to collect even more cold-weather clothing for those in need,’’ said Dennis Ratner, Hair Cuttery founder and chief executive officer. “That would certainly make it a merrier holiday for all of us.”
