McHenry Co. Officer, K-9 Officer Injured in Accident

Woodstock Police Officer David Dempsey and K-9 Officer Jax were injured in a Monday morning crash.

A Woostock police officer and his K-9 companion were injured Monday morning in an accident in unincorporated Harvard.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at the intersection of Streit Road and Lindwall Road in unincorporated Harvard at 7:25 a.m., police said.

The accident occurred when a Pontiac G6, which was traveling south on Lindwall Road, failed to yield for a stop sign at Streit Road and collided with a Ford Crown Victoris, which was traveling east on Streit Road, according to a McHerny County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Woodstock Police Department Officer David Dempsey, 36, and K-9 Officer Jax were in the Crown Victoria. Dempsey was taken to Centegra Woodstock Hospital and Jax was taken to the Woodstock Police Department’s veterinarian to be checked.

The driver of the Pontiac G6, Bernard Mercado, 50, was taken to Mercy Harvard Hospital. He was cited for failure to yield. Mercado is expected in court on Sept. 23.
