McHenry County College (MCC) announces the next event in its popular educational speaker series, Experts and Insights. The series aims to connect MCC employees, students, and McHenry County residents to interesting topics and relevant content that directly impacts the community.

“Stumbling Upon the Goddess: How Greek Mythology Can Save Your Life” will be presented both virtually via Zoom and in person at the College’s Luecht Auditorium on Thursday, June 3 at 6 p.m. The session will be led by Ted Hazelgrove, instructor of English at MCC.
The presentation will explore how the wisdom of Greek mythology can be used to better understand the human narrative and the push and pull of virtue and vice. Select myths will be featured, explained, and interpreted to illustrate these examples. Visual art representations will accompany individual myths.

“The myth of Icarus is not just about a hot-blooded adolescent flapping his wings up toward the sun—but rather functions as a kind of parable for living a life of moderation,” said Hazelgrove. “The Greek myths offer tantalizing insights on how best to navigate our often perplexing human journey.”
The series is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Registrants will receive a link to the webinar the day before the event. Registering qualifies participants to view the session either via Zoom or in person at the College.
