Should State Funding for Local Parks be Scrapped?
Last week Bruce Rauner ordered a review of all spending authorized by Quinn during his last weeks in office. Is your local park on the list?
As Gov. Bruce Rauner reviews all spending authorized by Pat Quinn during the former governor’s last weeks in office, $26 million in grants for new and local parks improvements could end up on the chopping block.
On Jan. 3, Quinn released $26 million to fund 75 parks and recreation projects in 28 counties. But with state finances in serious trouble -- not to mention a new report projecting next fiscal year’s deficit to hit $9 billion, worse than previously reported – is this spending the kind that should be halted, at least for now?
Most of the funds will head to local municipalities in Cook and the collar counties. See if any of your local parks are on the list and how much each project is expected to cost.
