JOLIET, IL — At least 31 administrators with Joliet Public Schools District 86, the city's elementary and junior high school district, currently make in the $100,000s and $200,000s, a salary analysis by Joliet Patch determined. Patch recently obtained the current salary and benefits data from District 86 through a Freedom of Information Act request.

District 86 is one of the largest employers in Joliet. The district has about 750 teachers, 1,505 total employees and more than 11,200 students, according to the district's website. District 86 has 15 elementary schools, four junior highs, one alternative school and one early childhood center.

For the past several months, the teachers union and the administration were in a contentious dispute over a new contract, and the teachers even took a vote to go on strike. After that happened, both sides announced that a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract was reached.

After reviewing the extensive public salary data provided in the FOIA, Joliet Patch only found about eight teachers making more than $80,000.
