1st Coronavirus Death, 10 Cases Confirmed In Will County

As of Wednesday, Illinois had 288 confirmed coronavirus cases and 1 death.

JOLIET, IL — The total number of Will County residents being treated by medical professionals for confirmed cases of the new coronavirus increased to 10 on Thursday and one of this week's patients has died, Will County Health Department Spokesman Steve Brandy confirmed.

The man who died was in his 50s. He was first Will County's first confirmed case on Monday. On Tuesday, county health officials determined that the man's spouse, a woman in her 50s, also had the coronavirus. On Wednesday, Will County's Health Department learned that six more people have the coronavirus.

Wednesday's six additional cases are as follows:

  • a woman in her 50s
  • a woman in her 30s
  • a woman in her 50s

Thursday marked the confirmation of two additional cases for Will County:

  • a man in his 70s
  • another man in his 70s

The Will County Health Department is not releasing the hometown of patients being treated for coronavirus, and officials are not saying where or even if the people are currently hospitalized.

Besides the death of the Will County man in his 50s, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced on Thursday that a Cook County woman in her 80s and a Florida resident who was visiting Sangamon County have died. The deaths bring Illinois' total of new coronavirus fatalities to four.

The number of Illinois coronavirus cases stood at 422 as of Thursday, with patients in 22 counties.
