Beggars Opens: Joliet Area's 1st New Restaurant In 2022

CREST HILL, IL — Crest Hill Mayor Ray Soliman said he's looking forward to enjoying his first Beggars Pizza in his community now that the new takeout and delivery restaurant has opened at 1720 Plainfield Road.

Soliman said he and his wife have enjoyed Beggars Pizza at other locations. "I enjoy a thicker crust," Crest Hill's mayor told Joliet Patch on Tuesday.

One by one, customers stepped inside 1720 Plainfield Road on Tuesday afternoon. Some picked up an entire pizza. Others bought pizza by the slice. This week marks the grand opening for the new Beggars Pizza in Crest Hill.

"I think it's going to be a tremendous asset for the entire Plainfield Road corridor," Crest Hill's mayor said. "We're very excited to have Beggars Pizza in Crest Hill, and I look forward to getting a pizza over there."

Dave Susay, franchise owner of the Mokena Beggars Pizza, selected Crest Hill for his expansion into the Joliet area. Unlike most Beggars, the one in Crest Hill is geared for takeout and delivery. There are four stools inside the lobby for customers wanting to eat a slice of pizza or a sandwich, but that's all the seating available.

On the other side of the lobby are six video gaming machines.

Steve Mayher told Joliet Patch he is the general manager for the new Crest Hill Beggars Pizza. The brand new rotating oven in the kitchen can make 40 large pizzas at one time or 100 small pizzas, one of the cooks explained.

"We've been selling a lot of slices," Mayher added.

The Beggars' pizza slice and pop special is $5.49 before tax, he said.

Besides pizza, Mayher said he's hoping to sell a lot of chicken wings, sandwiches, burgers and salads at the new Crest Hill location.

The Crest Hill Beggars Pizza is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
