Carson's Nabs Shorewood Woman Stealing $300 Worth Of Sweaters: Police
Carson's loss-prevention team has captured three high-volume shoplifting suspects over the past week or so.

JOLIET, IL - For the third time in barely a week, the Carson's loss-prevention team at the Louis Joliet Mall foiled another apparent high-volume shoplifting crime. Alexandria Cummings, 35, 1100 block of Geneva Street, Shorewood, was arrested by Joliet police on felony charges of retail theft. The shoplifting incident occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Joliet deputy police chief Edgar Gregory.
He said that Carson's security team saw Cummings wandering through their large retail store carrying one bag. At some point, Cummings entered one of the Carson's dressing rooms. "She was carrying one bag full of unknown contents into the woman's dressing rooms," Gregory said.
But when the Shorewood woman reemerged from the Carson's dressing room, she now had two bags in her hands, bags stocked with Carson's merchandise that Cummings was not planning to pay for, police said.

Next, Cummings tried to discretely walk out of Carson's without paying for anything, police said. That's when the Carson's security force jumped into action. They detained her after she walked outside the store. Joliet police officers were called and Cummings was put in the back of a squad car. She was taken to the Will County jail.

Gregory said that the stolen merchandise found inside of Cummings' bags were mostly women's sweaters and other assorted women's clothing, worth about $300 in value. He said that Cummings also had several wire snips and wire cutters inside of her purse, items that can be used to deactivate the security sensors that retail stores place on their merchandise in hopes of minimizing shoplifting.
As for Cummings, she is slated to appear before a Will County judge sometime Monday afternoon to have her bond set. She remains in the county jail for now.
