Club Going Up: 8 Arrested During Brawl With Cops and Security at Mojoes

A man who was thrown out of Mojoes returned to the club armed with a bottle, police said.

A man thrown out of a show at Mojoes and arrested on a trespassing charge returned to the Cass Street club after he was released from custody and touched off a massive brawl with the cops, police said.

Aswan Thompson, 19, allegedly started all the trouble when he went back to Mojoes after he got out of the police station about 2 a.m. Saturday. Thompson, a Chicago resident, had been ejected from the club and arrested a few hours earlier, police said.

When he showed up again, police said, the apparently unhappy Thompson had an empty bottle concealed in his shirt. He was also armed with a piece of concrete or a stone, said Mojoes owner Chris Triebes.

Thompson headbutted a female bouncer and clubbed a male bouncer in the head with the bottle, police said. He was then reportedly subdued and cuffed by security, but that didn’t

The police reportedly arrived to find a crowd of combatants. Another Chicago man, 26-year-old Pedro Ortiz, allegedly punched a club security guard and hit a police officer in the face. Twenty-two-year-old Chicago man Ricardo Matos joined in by elbowing a cop and resisting arrest, police said, and 24-year-old Chad Taylor—all the way from Buffalo, NY—got in the act by injuring a county deputy’s hand while attempting to get away from the law.

An unidentified 17-year-old from Chicago was taken into custody when he allegedly tried to help a young woman escape the cops, then ran off himself before he was caught, and 26-year-old Dayana Ramirez of Chicago was arrested when she tried to intercede on Ortiz’s behalf, police said.

Alexis Garcia, 21, of Bolingbrook allegedly pulled away from an officer and Sharee Washington, 27, of Chicago jumped on a deputy’s back, police said.

Thompson, Ortiz, Washington and Matos were taken to the Will County jail. The others were released on their own recognizance.

The brawl took place outside the club and about a block away said Triebes, who described the event as “real easy” and a “good show” before Thompson returned with his bottle and his rock.

“I don’t know if he was looking for revenge,” Triebes said of Thompson, who he said at one point somehow made his way into the building’s basement.
