JOLIET, IL — A 42-year-old Joliet man was taken away in handcuffs from the Jewel on West Jefferson Street Tuesday afternoon after Joliet Police say he threatened an employee and later vowed to kill officers at the Joliet Police Department. Benjamin Bailey had too much alcohol when he showed up intoxicated at the Jewel store, reports indicate.

He was later put in the backseat of a squad car and delivered to the Will County Jail where he was charged with intimidation, resisting and obstructing a peace officer, assault and battery, according to the police.

Around 12:10 p.m., several Joliet Police cars were summoned to the Jewel for a disturbance at the store.

Right before the squad cars arrived, Bailey opted to leave, but he didn't get far.

"He was located a short distance away from the store and was taken into custody. While being processed at the Joliet Police Department, Bailey became belligerent towards officers and refused to cooperate in the booking process," according to police.

Then, tensions flared up and Bailey found himself in more trouble with the law, according to the police reports.

"While at the station, Bailey made multiple threats to officers stating to the fact that he would find and kill the officers," police revealed. "Officers eventually were able to process Bailey and he was transported to the [Will County Adult Detention Facility]."

Bailey's bail was set at $10,000. He now needs to come up with $1,000 cash to post as bond. Jail logs had him residing in the Pioneer Road apartments in Crest Hill, but arrest reports show Bailey living in the 200 block of North Broadway Street.
