The gunman and driver were both jailed, police said.

The cops chased a car carrying a drive-by shooter and apprehended the triggerman and his accomplice moments after a gun attack on the Hill, police said.

Alleged gunman Shyhiem Atkinson, 20, of Lockport, and driver Alfred Warren, 19, of Joliet, were both arrested and jailed on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession of ammunition without a firearm owner’s identification card. Warren was also charged with driving while license suspended.

The police took another 19-year-old into custody along with Atkinson and Warren, but he was released without charge.

Officers who were parked in a lot off Englewood Avenue heard gunshots and then saw a Ford Fusion speed past, police said. The officers reportedly caught up to the Fusion and pulled it over, then found a pistol and revolver in the front seat of the car and a black mask in the back, as well as loose bullets near one of the guns.

The officers later obtained surveillance video that showed the Fusion heading west on Robin Lane toward Englewood as the masked front seat passenger—Atkinson—leaned out and opened fire at a group standing on the corner, police said. None of the people were hit but Atkinson did allegedly put a bullet in a house, police said.
