Daybreak Resident Faces 3 Walmart Charges

JOLIET, IL — A 48-year-old Joliet man who lives at the Daybreak Shelter on East Cass Street was formally charged last week with three crimes in connection with a Sept. 5 incident at the Walmart on West Jefferson Street. Derrick Ramone Cole faces one count of battery, one count of retail theft and one count of obstructing a peace officer.
The criminal complaint accuses of Cole of stealing clothing from the west-side Walmart store that day. Afterward, Cole is accused of striking another man "about the body" and when Joliet Police officer Ryan Killian arrived to investigate the Walmart retail theft, Cole "did not stop walking after being told to stop walking by Ryan Killian," court records state.
Cole remained in the Will County lockup from Sept. 5 through Sept. 12, jail logs show. Thenm last week, formal charges were filed by Will County prosecutors and a bench warrant was issued for Cole's arrest. Cole has a 2013 prior conviction for robbery, the complaint notes.

Bail was set at $10,000.
