Dog Named Jax Denied Food, Water, Shelter By Owner: JPD

Joliet police were called to the 700 block of Second Avenue for a report of a husky breed dog tied up in the backyard.

JOLIET, IL — A 48-year-old Joliet woman was taken into custody Tuesday on charges of cruelty to animals after Joliet police say Yetta Reeves repeatedly neglected her husky named Jax, denying the dog food, water and shelter.

Joliet police have been investigating Reeves since Aug. 7.

That evening, around 6:20 p.m., Joliet police were called to the 700 block of Second Avenue for a report of a husky breed dog tied up in the backyard without food, water and shelter.

"Officers arrived and located the dog, which was wet from the elements and appeared to have injuries to its ears," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said.

He said that officers found a food and water source near the dog, and representatives from the Joliet Township Animal Control responded to the scene.

Reeves was identified as Jax's owner and was advised she had 48 hours to take the dog to a veterinarian, English stated.

Officers continued to follow up with Reeves in reference to Jax’s medical care and around 11:35 a.m. on Aug. 10, Jax had still not received medical care, Joliet police reports reflect.

On Tuesday, Joliet police obtained an arrest warrant for Reeves and placed Reeves into custody at her residence around 7:25 p.m. Reeves was transported to the Joliet Police Department, where she was processed and released after posting a cash bond, English added.
