Dog Obedience Classes Begin Soon
Joliet Junior College offers K-9 Good Citizen Obedience courses at the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center beginning February 4, 2016.

K-9 Good Citizen (CGC) & K-9 Good Citizen Advanced Obedience (CGCA) (LLC 3620)
This course provides a fun and friendly environment for basic pet obedience training (a non-military type regimen of training) and prepares you for the Canine Good Citizen & the NEW Canine Good Citizen Advanced Certification from the American Kennel Club. Working as a team, owners and pets will learn to understand each other. The owners will train with their pets, and make corrections to comfortably gain control and instruct the pet to understand what is expected of him or her. The course starts out with simple commands such as sit, stay, down, come, walking on lead and building socializations then progresses to working in an environment with food, walkers, wheelchairs, and common noises. These activities will prepare teams for the AKC CGC testing and also the prerequisite to some therapy dog organizations. AKC CGC & CGCA certificate testing will be administered by the instructor on the last day of the class. All passing participants will be given papers to register with the AKC for the Good Citizen Certificate. (AKC will charge $8 for the CGC processing and $20 for the CGCA processing. It is the owner’s responsibility to submit the papers and fee to the AKC). This class works with beginners and advanced dogs. Please note: this course is not appropriate for dogs with aggressive behavior problems. Dogs deemed overly aggressive toward other dogs or humans will be dismissed from the course.
