Gunman, 18, Crashes Into Guardrail: Joliet Police

Joliet officers saw a gun and two loaded magazines inside the car belonging to Joliet teenager Giovanni Chavez-Zamora, police noted.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet teenager with a loaded gun and two loaded gun magazines crashed his car into a guardrail during Friday's rainstorm and that resulted in the arrest of Giovanni Chavez-Zamora on charges of aggravated on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition with No FOID.

Friday's one-car crash happened around 2 p.m. along East Washington Street east of Henderson Avenue.

"Chavez-Zamora was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe at which time he lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement after turning eastbound on Washington from southbound Henderson Avenue," Joliet police reports show.

The 18-year-old's vehicle came to rest after striking a guardrail on the south side of the street.

"While officers were investigating this accident, they observed a handgun and two loaded magazines inside the vehicle in plain view," police spokesman Dwayne English revealed.

Fellow officers recovered the loaded 9 mm handgun and magazines and placed Chavez-Zamora into custody without incident, English noted.

Chavez-Zamora lives in the 600 block of Virginia Street. He remained in the Will County Jail on Monday night, unable to post 10 percent of his $20,000 bail.
