High-Speed Rail Test to Joliet Set for Oct. 19
While the entire trip between Normal and Joliet will not be at 110 mph, the 14-mile stretch between Pontiac and Dwight will test the newly installed tracks.
The first test of the high-speed rail tracks between Joliet and Normal will be conducted Oct. 19, with Gov. Pat Quinn and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on board for the right.
Although the train will not go 110 mph for the entire trip, a 14-mile segment between Dwight and Pontiac has been designated by the Illinois Department of Transportation and Union Pacific Railroad as the section of track that will be tested, according to a story published by Tribune Media Services.
Union Pacific installed new ties and rails along the Chicago-St. Louis Amtrak route as part of a $1.5 billion upgrade to make way for high-speed trains, the story said.
