Home Depot Thief Runs To Red Lobster: Joliet Police

Theresa Salup, 43, of Plainfield, committed her crime on the Fourth of July at the Home Depot on Plainfield Road, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 43-year-old Plainfield woman was in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say she stole hundreds of dollars of merchandise from the Plainfield Road Home Depot on the Fourth of July.

Joliet police said officers ran after the woman, identified as Theresa Salup, and captured her across the street at the Red Lobster restaurant. She's now being charged with retail theft, plus she had a DuPage County warrant out for her arrest, according to police.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events to Salup's arrest:

At 2:54 p.m., officers responded to 3001 Plainfield Road for a retail theft. As the officer neared the Home Depot, police said they learned that Salup had selected merchandise valued at more than $600 and then exited the store without paying.

The Plainfield woman then ran after she was approached by Home Depot employees. according to police. She ran across Plainfield Road into the parking lot of Red Lobster, where Joliet police caught up to her, and she was placed into custody.

"Upon further investigation, officers determined that Salup also held a no-bond DuPage County arrest warrant for retail theft," English noted.

Will County Jail records listed Salup as residing on Susan Street in Morris.
