New Beef Restaurant Slated For Jefferson St.

The Joliet City Council will be asked to take action on the project at Tuesday's meeting.

JOLIET, IL - The restaurant industry is never static, whether you're talking about Joliet, New Lenox, Chicago or wherever. Earlier this month, Applebee's decided to close several Illinois restaurants, including one on Jefferson Street near Walmart. That Applebee's is now shuttered, creating a void. Now, a River Forest entrepreneur has approached the city of Joliet, unveiling his plans to open a new restaurant about two blocks away from the former Applebee's. The new restaurant would be called Buona Beef Restaurant.

It's planned at 2210 West Jefferson Street. The project will go before the Joliet City Council at Tuesday night's meeting. The owner needs the council to approve a permit for a drive thru window.

A memo from Joliet City Manager David Hales states that Buona Beef Restaurant approached the city last week, on June 20. "The restaurant will be constructed on a redeveloped site," Hales notified the council. "At this time, only the Buona Beef Restaurant is being developed on the west side of the property."

According to Hales, the city's public works staff has reviewed the developer's drive-thru plans and is recommending approval for the Buona Beef Restaurant, pending final engineering plans.
