Joliet Author Leads Troy Shorewood Assembly

Nationally-known children’s author Amy Logan recently led an assembly of almost 400 K-4th grade students at Troy Shorewood Elementary School.

The school was celebrating “Self-Esteem Week,” and Logan spoke about her newest book, “The Best Book Ever,” which highlights belief in oneself.

“Whatever you want to be as you get older,” Logan told the students, “you already have everything inside you to be that.”

This is the sixth book Logan has published, and she debuted it at Troy Shorewood, donating a signed copy to the school’s library. Her other books include “The Girl with the Cape” series.

Troy Shorewood Principal Colleen Connolly said the assembly was one of the highlights of the school’s Self-Esteem Week, which also included the themes of Dress to impress, Look inside and be mindful, Be your own cheerleader, Love yourself, and Be proud of who you are.

“This is one way we combat bullying,” Connolly said. “Most bullies don’t have good esteem within themselves. Teaching kids to love themselves and value themselves for who they are is important.”
