Joliet Juneteenth Celebration Will Protest Mayor O'Dekirk

Friday's Juneteenth event begins at 2 p.m. at the Joliet West High School parking lot, 401 N. Larkin Ave.

JOLIET, IL — A Juneteenth Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. today in the parking lot of the Joliet West High School. Organizers plan to march to the busy intersection of Larkin Avenue and Jefferson Street where they will demand that Joliet Mayor Bob O'Dekirk resign, organizers said.

Friday's event is called the Joliet Peaceful Protest Juneteenth Celebration.

Organizers said they will be celebrating all things black and the Juneteenth Celebration will include food, voter registration and census information.

The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Meanwhile, Joliet area residents are encouraged to attend another Joliet Juneteenth Celebration, starting at 6 p.m. at Nowell Park, on the city's east side.
