Joliet Alley Fight, Large Rock Lands Victim In St. Joe's: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A one on one street fight took place in the middle of the night last weekend and the incident led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Joliet man on felony violence charges. The victim was clubbed in the head with a heavy object, prompting a Joliet Fire Department ambulance run to St. Joe's hospital, Joliet police reports reflect.

Jose Velazquez-Garcia was booked into Will County's Jail around 3:20 a.m. Saturday on charges of aggravated battery. Velazquez is from the 800 block of North Broadway Street.

At 1:18 a.m., officers working the overnight shift were sent to an alley in the 800 block of North Broadway Street for a fight involving Velazquez-Garcia and another man.

Velazquez-Garcia is suspected of striking the victim in the head with a landscape rock.

The victim was rushed to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center for injuries suffered in the attack. Velasquez-Garcia was placed into custody without incident.

After spending eight hours in the jail, Velazquez regained his freedom and walked away from the Will County Jail around 11:30 a.m. He had posted the necessary 10 percent of his $10,000 bail.
