Joliet Woman Shoots Gun To Scare Someone: JPD

Joliet police say they recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from 36-year-old Ashley Hester's residence. Hester lives on Virginia Avenue.

JOLIET, IL — A 36-year-old woman who legally owns a gun is no longer in the Will County Jail after Joliet police arrested her on charges of reckless discharge of a gun and for reckless conduct over the weekend. The gun incident involving Ashley Hester happened around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, according to Joliet police officials.

Police cars were sent to Hester's residence in the 800 block of Virginia Street for a report of shots fired. Officers found Hester in the driveway and she "indicated to officers that she had fired one round into the air in an effort to scare a female adult that had arrived to possibly begin an altercation with her," Joliet police reports reflect.

When Hester fired her gun, the other woman left the area, according to police.

Officers say they recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from Hester’s residence and that Hester did possess a valid FOID card. No damage or injuries were noted as a result of the shooting.

On Monday night, Hester got let out of the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of her $3,000 bail, jail logs reflect.
