Love Brothers Liquor Store Attack Injures Victim: JPD

At 3:47 p.m. Joliet police were sent to Mimis Food and Liquor at 453 East Cass Street for a disturbance. The incident led to three arrests.

JOLIET, IL — In the middle of Wednesday afternoon on a sunny, muggy summer day, Joliet police officers made three arrests at the Mimis Food and Liquor store at 453 East Cass St. Two of the three arrests included Joliet's Love brothers, Thomas, age 36 and younger brother, Kenneth, age 34. A teenager was also hauled off to the Will County Jail with the Loves, Taylor Reeves, age 19.

Joliet police say Thomas Love is incarcerated facing two counts of aggravated battery. Kenneth Love also faces two counts of aggravated battery, while Reeves also faces the same charges.

The Loves are now lodged in the county jail, each one faces a $50,000 bail. Reeves drew a bail of $20,000.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events led to the three arrests on Joliet's east side:

  • At 3:47 p.m., officers sped to Mimis Food and Liquor for a disturbance. Thomas and Kenneth Love and Reeves, got into a fight with a 52-year-old man outside of the Dollar Tree store at 457 East Cass Street, and the victim was punched and kicked in the head.
  • The victim then ran from his attack into Mimis Food and Liquor. Thomas and Kenneth Love and Reeves then chased after him inside the store and they continued to beat the victim, striking him in the head and face multiple times.
  • Reeves struck the victim with a bottle during the attack. The victim sustained injuries to his head and body. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance was sent to the liquor store, however, the victim refused to be taken to the hospital.
  • Joliet police took Thomas Love and Reeves into custody at Mimis and officers found Kenneth Love nearby and placed into custody. Thomas Love was taken by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance to the Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center for minor injuries he suffered during the attack.
  • Upon his release from the hospital, Thomas Love was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, along with Kenneth Love and Reeves.
