Machete Incident Leads To Joliet Man's Arrest: Police

JOLIET, IL — A 28-year-old Joliet man remains in the Will County Jail following an incident involving a machete on Thursday, according to Joliet police.

Landriel Hart was arrested by Joliet police on charges of assault, disorderly conduct, possession of cannabis and obstructing justice.

Joliet police spokesman Olin Torkelson said the following events surrounded Hart's arrest:

  • Around 7:55 a.m., officers were flagged down by a victim in the 300 block of South Chicago Street. The victim said Hart came up to her vehicle while in the parking lot of the business and hit her vehicle with a machete and yelled obscenities.
  • Officers saw Hart in the parking lot with a machete, and he began to walk away toward an alley. Officers stopped Hart in the 300 block of South Ottawa Street, where he sat on the porch of a residence. Upon sitting down, marijuana fell out of Hart’s pants pocket.
  • Hart was placed into custody and taken to the Joliet Police Department for booking procedures. When Hart refused to cooperate with booking procedures, he was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
  • The machete and Hart's cannabis were recovered at the scene, Torkelson noted.
