Man With Green Cylinder Gets Arrested On Jackson Street

Joliet Police officers arrested this young man on East Jackson Street.

JOLIET, IL - A 22-year-old Joliet man got arrested early Saturday morning on the city's east side for having crack cocaine inside a secret container, police reports show. Raul Arias, who lives in the 200 block of McRoberts Street, was arrested by the Joliet Police Department on charges of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, possession of controlled substances and obstructing a police officer.

According to Joliet Police reports, it was around 2:10 a.m. when officers patrolling the 600 block of East Jackson Street saw Arais "standing next to a vehicle speaking to the driver of another vehicle. Officers observed Arias holding an open bottle of beer and a small green film type cylinder in his right hand."

When Joliet's officers tried to speak with Arias, however, "Arias immediately attempted to conceal the green cylinder by placing it into his pocket," reports show.

The officers pressed Arias for information, what was inside his green cylinder and why was he hiding it from them?

Arias told the officers "he didn't know" what was in his cylinder, reports state.

Ultimately, Arias agreed to hand over the green cylinder to the police, reports show.

"Officers opened the lid and observed multiple small plastic baggies inside, at which point Arias fled on foot through the parking lot. Officers secured the cylinder and after a short foot chase where Arias refused commands to stop, tackled Arias from behind, and were able to take Arias into custody without further incident," police said.

So, what was inside the Joliet man's green cylinder?

"Upon further inspection of the cylinder officers discovered multiple baggies with suspect crack cocaine inside. The suspected crack cocaine tested positive once back at the station, and Arias was charged with the above offenses," police reports reflect.

Arias went before a Will County Jail over the weekend and got a low bail, $10,000. As a result, he came up with $1,000 to post as bond on Saturday night. He is no longer in custody.
