Movies 10 Closing; Dick's Sporting Goods, DSW to Open in Joliet
Theater will be torn down and a new building constructed in its place, mayor says.

The discount Cinemark Movies 10 Theater is scheduled to close soon and will be demolished to make way for a Dick’s Sporting Goods and DSW shoe store, Mayor Tom Giarrante said Friday.
It was unclear when the theater will close, but Giarrante said construction could begin on the new businesses this summer.
The new businesses will replace the theater, which is located at 2601 Plainfield Road in the Louis Joliet Pointe shopping center across from Barnes & Noble.

Giarrante said Movies 10, which was turned into a discount theater when Cinemark opened a Louis Joliet Mall location in 2009, may have fallen victim to services such as Netflix and Redbox.
Giarrante said it’s an exciting time for the Louis Joliet Mall and surrounding area.

“They are really doing well out there,” he said, adding that the mall, which recently added several new stores including H&M, is at 90 percent occupancy.
The former MyGofer, also on Plainfield Road, is also the site of development, with a new Sports Authority store and a Fresh Thyme grocery slated to open.
