Murphy's Express Shooting: Whitaker Captured 4 Months Later

JOLIET, IL — Four months after Joliet police officers responded to a shooting at the Murphy's Express gas station on Route 59, 18-year-old Joliet resident Damarco Whitaker is now in the Will County Jail.

By the time an arrest warrant was issued in January, Joliet police believed Whitaker had fled the area and was staying in Georgia. The Will County Sheriff's Office booked him into custody on Thursday.

Whitaker is charged in Will County with two counts of armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a gun and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Whitaker's bail is $250,000.

According to his criminal complaint, Whitaker tried to shoot someone at the Murphy's Express gas station parking lot around 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. Joliet police believe Whitaker fired a gun from the passenger side of one vehicle at another vehicle, striking only the vehicle.

Both vehicles struck an unoccupied and uninvolved vehicle parked at a gas pump. The people in the shooter's vehicle then ran off.
