No Bumper Prompts Felony DUI Arrest On Glenwood: JPD

At 3:15 a.m. Joliet police stopped Coley's Hyundai Elantra in the 1600 block of Glenwood for an equipment violation, officers noted.

JOLIET, IL — A 33-year-old Bolingbrook woman spent a day-and-a-half in the Will County Jail following her arrest on Joliet's Glenwood Avenue in connection with felony DUI charges.

Joliet police say Khadijah Coley not only drank too much alcohol, but she had consumed illegal drugs, and then operated her motor vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, during the overnight hours of Wednesday on the city's west side.

The incident led Coley's arrest on charges of aggravated DUI, DUI, DUI – drugs, DUI-combination of drugs and alcohol, possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis by the driver and driving while license suspended.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to Coley's arrest:

Around 3:15 a.m., officers stopped Coley's Hyundai Elantra in the 1600 block of Glenwood Avenue for an equipment violation. Coley exhibited signs of impairment by alcohol or drugs and officers saw open alcohol containers in her vehicle.

Coley performed field sobriety tests and she was placed into custody without incident. Inside her car, Officers recovered ecstasy and cannabis. Coley also received traffic citations for having no bumper, illegal transportation of alcohol by driver, improper turn signal and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

She walked out of the doors at the Will County Jail around 7 p.m. Thursday, not having to post any cash bail. Her next court hearing at the courthouse is set for July 5 at 9 a.m.
