Proud Navy veteran, mason, and people person who always made people smile passes away at age 94.

Theodore Russell

Theodore C. Russell, age 94, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet, with his loving family by his side.

Ted was born on November 30, 1928, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and was a long time resident of Shorewood. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a Supervisor for Kerr Glass Company. He was also a member of Matteson Lodge #175, A.F. & A.M, and one of the original Village of Shorewood police officers.

Ted will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and father who was a people person and always asked people to smile. He was also an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan.

He is survived by his loyal, loving and caring son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Karen Russell of Shorewood.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary M. Russell (March 7, 2014); his parents, John William and Mary Christine (Nicewarner) Russell; and his brothers, Bill Russell and Joe Nicewarner.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunnyhill Nursing Home and Lightways Hospice for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.

Visitation for Theodore Russell will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
