Salem Village Murder Victim's ID Revealed: Coroner

A resident of Salem Village, William Paschall, 71, faces first-degree murder charges, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL —The staff for Will County Coroner Laurie Summers has revealed that 61-year-old Michael Pappas was the victim of last weekend's attack on the sixth floor of the Salem Village nursing home and rehabilitation center.

According to Summers, the 61-year-old Pappas was declared dead at 12:25 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Rowell Avenue.

"The Joliet Police Department is investigating the incident. An autopsy was performed on Sunday. Final cause and manner will be determined after Police, Autopsy and toxicological reports are completed," Summers posted on Facebook."

On Sunday, Joliet police announced that William"Bill" Paschall is now jailed on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a person 60 years of age or older.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, Paschall and his victim were residents of Salem Village.
