Woman, 18, Critical After Shooting On South Ottawa Street

Several Joliet police officers and detectives converged on Ottawa Street Thursday afternoon to investigate the city's latest shooting.

JOLIET, IL — An 18-year-old woman was critically injured during Thursday afternoon's drive-by shooting on Joliet's southeast side. The victim was shot in the head as she sat in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 200 block of South Ottawa Street around 1:40 p.m.

The victim was rushed by Joliet Fire Department ambulance to AMITA St. Joe's hospital. The gunman opened fire on the woman's car, and several bullets also hit her vehicle, according to Joliet police. The gunman's car sped away before the police arrived.

"This is an active investigation in its early stages as Joliet police detectives work to identify a suspect or suspects," police spokesman Dwayne English announced.

On Sunday evening, Joliet police investigated two separate shootings that left a total of three people injured, including a 2-year-old child. Two victims were shot on Luther Avenue, and a 21-year-old man was shot near Eastern Avenue and Washington Street.
