Shots Fired On Jackson St., Joliet PD Arrests Fleeing Suspects

Both of the Joliet criminal defendants posted 10 percent of their bail Monday night, allowing them to return to the community.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Police arrested two east-side residents in connection with several gunshots that were fired over the weekend on Jackson Street. Angel Flores, 20, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, having no FOID, unlawful possession of ammunition and obstructing a peace officer. Martin Hernandez, 19, was arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a gun aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, having no FOID, unlawful possession of ammunition and disregard of a traffic control device.

Officers were patrolling the 400 block of Jackson Street on Saturday night and they heard several gunshots coming the intersection of Jackson and Parks Avenue, according to Joliet Police.

The patrol officers saw the getaway car hit the gas and the driver subsequently blew through a nearby stop light, police said. When Joliet Police stopped the car in the 500 block of Clay Street, Flores jumped out of the passenger side door and tried to run away, police said.

He was captured a short distance later.

"As the officers took Flores to the ground, a (gun) fell out of his shirt," Joliet Police said, adding that the loaded gun was confiscated as evidence from the crime.

Additionally, Joliet Police said they recovered several spent gun shell casings from inside the car driven by Hernandez and Flores.

Police determined that Hernandez was the shooter and that Flores grabbed hold of the gun prior to the two men being arrested, police said.

"Nothing was reported (being) struck by the shots fired from the vehicle," Joliet Police announced.

Hernandez, 19, who lives in the 500 block of Ohio Street, and Angel Flores, 20, who also lives in the 500 block of Ohio Street, were both released from Will County's Jail on Monday night. Both men posted 10 percent of their respective $20,000 bail, jail logs show.
