Sheriff: Woman Killed After Someone Bangs On Her Door
Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Dan Jungles issued a press release Sunday.
JOLIET, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office is seeking help from the community in the hopes of identifying the person who opened fire on 44-year-old Tamala Clayton after she opened the front door of her house in the 200 block of Reichman Street around 5:15 a.m. Saturday. Sheriff's deputies found Clayton dead in her house after she was shot numerous times.
"Witnesses to the incident advised detectives that sometime shortly after 5 a.m. someone began pounding on the front door of the residence. Witnesses stated that Tamala Clayton opened the front door of the residence, and unknown person(s) immediately fired numerous rounds in her direction. Tamala Clayton was shot multiple times as she opened the front door of the residence," the Will County Sheriff's Office said.
The Will County Sheriff’s Police wants to hear from any resident or business with surveillance videos of reports of suspicious activity between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. from 4th Avenue to Doris Avenue between Chicago Street, and Richards Street in Joliet. Reichman is just outside the city of Joliet's limits, in proximity to the I-80 exit at Richards Street.
The killing happened hours after another fatal Joliet shooting claimed the life of 19-year-old Marcello Dilworth on Hobbs Avenue.

Last weekend, two people, a man and a woman, were shot on Joliet's near west side near Center Street, but their injuries were not fatal. Also last Saturday morning, Floyd Faint, 29, was found shot to death on the I&M Canal Trail in Rockdale.
