LA GRANGE, IL – A La Grange trustee said Monday a nearby quarry earlier that day caused the loudest blast that she has heard in her more than 10 years in the village.

"I do have a seismograph that I asked to be put in my yard a year ago," Trustee Beth Augustine told the Village Board on Monday.

Hanson Aggregates, which owns the quarry in neighboring McCook, has been known to place seismographs in the yards of interested residents.

Augustine lives less than two miles from the quarry.

She said she planned to go to a village official to see how she can go about retrieving the data from the equipment. She said her house shakes daily.

Last year, a resident a half mile from the quarry also was given a seismograph to put in his yard. He said he struggled to get the actual readings from the equipment, but was told the device found the company's blasting was within standards.

In 2018, Hanson Aggregates moved from surface mining to underground. An executive said at the time that the effects on neighbors would be smaller.

Last year, the company told Patch that it blasts between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Patch left a message for comment with a Hanson Aggregates spokesman.
